On Another Segment Of “ASK CRAIG:” Working With A Builder When Installing An Elevator

On another segment of “Ask Craig,” we are diving into elevator installs in a new build and what it’s like working with a builder and an elevator company simultaneously!

“Great question! Thank you for asking and congratulations on your new build!

We absolutely work with builders, contractors, and architects when it comes to new build construction. In most cases, we work directly with the builder, of course with any input from the homeowner. Once the plans have been made of where you want your residential elevator, what kind of elevator needs to be ordered, and any design choices made, we work with the builder to get it installed and take it off your plate.

We also work with the city to get permitting needed, make sure inspections are upheld and any other kind of construction must do’s.

Things to prepare before the meeting with the builder and ourselves:

1) What general area do you want your elevator to be placed in or do you need us to advise on the best configuration?

2) Grab your blueprints so we can get exact measurements and logistics. Some of your elevator choices will depend on those dimensions and what type of space will be needed for the drive equipment or will we need an outside the box solution of a shaftless elevator, vacuum elevator or glass elevator hoistway?

3) Know your budget and speak to your builder about it.There’s a lot of misinformation on the internet about today’s costs of adding an elevator, so it’s important to get connected with a local elevator specialist who’s familiar with your area and application to help with estimating your investment on the elevator front. We will completely install your elevator but things like creating an elevator shaft, electrical, installation of flush frames for elevator safety compliance, drywall, painting (really any construction aspect) or modifying blueprints will be additional costs from the builder, outside of your elevator install with us.

All in all, we want to make this process as smooth as possible for you and your builder. We have a full team that’s dedicated to working and advising directly with a builder to assist on the requirements needed for your elevator install to run smoothly. Timelines will go hand in hand.

Please feel free to reach out to us directly to discuss further for your specific project or pass our information along to your builder and we will all take it from there.”

Check Your Elevator Quote for These Things

In the market for an elevator? We know that it can be very smart to shop around.

However, we just ask that you let us help you compare their quote to ours. Most times it won’t be apples to apples. We can help break down the costs to see the big picture!

For example, did you know that each manufacturer has a different warranty? Some warranties only include one year. So while they may be the cheaper option at install, in the long run, you may be spending more.

Do you have specific finishes picked out or is this a generalized, first bat quote?

Check your quote for these things:

(If the line items do not show it on the proposal/quote, ask the company if these things were considered)

1) Does the price include the cost of Flush Frames?

2) Are your gates powered or manual operation?

3) What are the interior finishes?

4) What is the drive of the equipment?

5) What is the manufacturer’s warranty?

At Country Home Elevator & Stair Lift, we do the customer first approach. We listen, and you get exactly what you need. Have a set budget? We can still help! We offer such a wide variety of products/solutions and have multiple partnerships with vendors to give you all the options you desire, within that budget.

What sets us apart: We take your inquiry form, gather any notes or photos, and offer a quick phone consultation to get some needed details so that we can give you an all in price. No hidden fees or add on costs here!

So, if you are in the market to shop around, please give us a chance to speak with you and help you through that process. There are SO MANY key details to the quoting process. We would love to help! Call us to get started at 417-376-4009 or fill out our quote form with the button below!

Curved Stairlift Installation and Safety Upgrades – Where Are We Wednesdays (07/25/2018)

Curved Stairlift Installation and Safety Upgrades
Where Are We Wednesdays (07/25/2018)

Happy Wednesday Folks!

Starting with the two pictures on the left, Kansas City Technician Darren and Technician Ivan are in Belton, Missouri today.  The top picture is of Ivan finishing up the installion of a Handicare Curved Stair Lift.  Most staircases go straight up and down, but when a staircase has a turn, we can install a custom-fitted lift to accommodate.  These lifts have many customizable options, as you can see the rail matches the woodwork of the home.  The bottom picture is of the happy customer, taking his new lift for a spin!

The top middle picture was taken by Operations Manager Jim in Skiatook, Oklahoma.  He is with Technician Owen installing a Symmetry Home Elevator.  This hydraulic elevator will service three floors once completed.

The bottom middle picture was taken by Lead Technician Adam in Springfield, Missouri today.  He is servicing an old ThyssenKrupp Access Vertical Platform Lift.  Although many of these lifts are still operating today, their original manufacturer is no longer in business.  Country Home Elevator has decades of experience with these lifts and are commonly called even when we were not the original servicing company.

Inclinator Company of America is another manufacturer that we have worked with for decades now.  They recently requested Country Home Elevator to assist in taking over service for many of their lifts that were installed by other companies.  All of lifts they reached out about require safety upgrades, maintenance, adjustment, or even replacement.  Senior Technician Ron is in Kimberling City, Missouri today running tests on one of these units.

Our crews are also in Fayetteville, Eagle Rock, Warrensburg, Bethany, Luther, Berryville, Moran, Moundville, and Nevada today.  If you see one of our trucks feel free to tag us on Facebook using #countryhomeelevator or #wherearewewednesdays

Symmetry Elevator Installation and Elevator Service – Where Are We Wednesdays (07/18/2018)

Symmetry Elevator Installation and Elevator Service
Where Are We Wednesdays (07/18/2018)

Happy Wednesday Folks!

Starting on the top left, Technicians Tim Ivan and Jesse are on a jobsite in Sunrise Beach, Missouri.  They are installing a Symmetry Home Elevator in a home with these beautiful lake views!  They quickly unloaded on the jobsite before the storms in the top right picture settled in, these heavy storms brought on flash flooding which did affect our crews.

The bottom right picture is of Senior Technician Ron on a jobsite in Kansas City, Missouri.  He joined Kansas City Technician Darren to takeover service on an existing Savaria Concord Home Elevator.  The Savaria Concord Home Elevator is no longer manufactured and this particular elevator was installed by a different company that is no longer available to service it, so Ron is reviewing the schematics before beginning work.  These documents outline the wiring and installation for this specific elevator, and were thankfully let onsite when the elevator was installed well over a decade ago.  This crew was also affected by the flooding, they had to detour from a potentially dangerous situation.

The final picture on the bottom right was sent in by Country Home Elevator Owner Craig Jones.  He is in Arkansas this week assisting the team there on some projects.  During his travels he picked up this beauty for our new sister company, Barn Find Classic Cars

Our crews are also in Chanute, El Dorado Springs, Belton, Parkville, Overland Park, Luther, Bonner Springs, and Topeka today.  If you see one of our trucks feel free to tag us on Facebook using #countryhomeelevator or #wherearewewednesdays

LEV Service and Elevator Installations – Where Are We Wednesdays (07/11/2018)

LEV Service and Elevator Installations
Where Are We Wednesdays (07/11/2018)

Happy Wednesday Folks!

Starting on the top left, Senior Technician Ron and Lead Technician Adam are in Warsaw, Missouri today.  They are responding to a service request for a Savaria Telecab elevator.  Although Country Home Elevator has been installing and servicing Savaria products for well over a decade, we are expanding our line to include the Savaria Vuelift.  These elevators are comprised of glass walls, giving customers full views.  We will be releasing more information soon on all of our upcoming products!

Oklahoma Operations Manager Jim took the middle left picture today while in Edmond, Oklahoma.  He is visiting the jobsite for a new office building that will feature a Symmetry Limited Use/Limited Access (LU/LA) Elevator.  This elevator will service 3 floors once completed.  Jim met with the contractor to discuss the hoistway construction and recheck framing measurements.  These visits are crucial when installing any of our products, it is simple to correct any issues at this stage before the elevator is built.

The bottom picture on the left and the top picture on the right were taken in Rogers, Arkansas by Technician Tim and Technician Ivan.  They are preforming a retro kit installation on a LEV Home Elevator.  This elevator is no longer manufactured, and the manufacturer is no longer operating in the States so when components fail or are damaged they are replaced with Symmetry parts.  Due to damage, they are replacing almost all of the electrical components today.

The final picture on the bottom right was sent in by Kansas City Technician Darren.  Installation Manager Bill met up with him in Lawrence, Kansas to install a Transporter Elevator.  The Transporter Elevator is the industry’s only battery powered residential home elevator, virtually eliminating concerns regarding power outages. The unit can run multiple trips (up to 10+ times), in BOTH directions, on its own batteries.

Our crews are also in Ozark, Branson, El Dorado, Mission Hills, Oklahoma City, Perkins, and Springfield today.  If you see one of our trucks, like the one in the final picture above, feel free to tag us on Facebook using #countryhomeelevator or #wherearewewednesdays

Canton Elevator Installation and Symmetry Elevators – Where Are We Wednesdays (06/27/2018)

Canton Elevator Installation and Symmetry Elevators Where Are We Wednesdays (06/27/2018)

Happy Wednesday Folks!

The first two pictures were taken by Lead Technician Adam in Branson, Missouri today.  Him and Technician Austin are installing another Canton Elevator at the Grand Country Inn, one of the main attractions on the Branson Strip of Highway 76.  Along with the others at this site, this elevator is Canton’s Tradesman Model, a holeless hydraulic driven elevator that can service up to a 2500 lb capacity.  We are excited to be expanding our current Canton product line, Country Home Elevator has a new upcoming Canton project that will service up to a 3500 lb capacity.  Once that project begins we will share updates and pictures.  The top right picture is of the cartop, Adam was working on the wiring today.  Senior Technician Ron will join the team tomorrow to help them finish up and prep for the inspection.

Technician Tim snapped the middle picture of Technician Ivan filling out paperwork.  This is actually a Quality Report from Symmetry Elevating Solutions.  Each time we install one of their products, we have the opportunity to report directly to the manufacturer any issues we had or ideas to improve the product/process.  We appreciate how receptive they are, each year these products just get better and better.

Our crews are also in Platte City, Shawnee, Oak Grove, Lake Lotawana, Luther, Oklahoma City, Enid, and Springfield today.  If you see one of our trucks, like the one in the final picture above, feel free to tag us on Facebook using #countryhomeelevator or #wherearewewednesdays
