Because a vacuum elevator comes with its own shaft, it’s not necessary to frame a special elevator shaft into a building where one will be installed. Also, there’s no need for a separate machine room. All that is really needed is an extra-wide opening for the door, as vacuum elevators by their nature require more space for entry and exit. They are priced on the high end of the range of options, but without the need for a custom hoistway, they tend to be a viable option for a wider range of home structures.
Modern home elevators come with various features to ensure user safety, including slack cable devices and T-rail brakes. In the case of a vacuum elevator, however, safety is in its very nature. The elevator is held up by pressurized air. Even if this pressure should suddenly leak, the probable result would be nothing more than a descent to ground level at a safe speed.
Due to its lack of moving parts a vacuum elevator is also much less likely to get stuck between floors, and by the same token it is much easier to safely lower in the event it does get stuck.
The pneumatic vacuum elevator has been rightly described as a work of art that happens to carry passengers. No matter the look and decor of your home, its transparent tube will add an aesthetic touch unmatched by any other type of lift. It looks even better from inside the cab, where passengers will enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the home – something no standard elevator can offer. This completely transparent design can also help to alleviate claustrophobia for certain home elevator users.
