Wonders of Wildlife

In 1972, Johnny Morris founded Bass Pro Shops in the back of his father’s store in Springfield, Missouri. From humble beginnings, he has grown his empire to nearly 100 stores internationally. Returning to his roots, Mr. Morris has opened the Johnny Morris’ Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium in Springfield. This 350,000-square foot conservation museum is larger than the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History with more than 1.5 miles of exhibits including a 1.5-million–gallon aquarium.
Last year during a soft opening, it was decided that the Symmetry Limited Use/Limited Access Elevator would need to be sped up to accommodate the large volume of museum goers. Country Home Elevator’s Owner Craig Jones and Operations Manager Bill Zarr worked alongside Mike Wettstein and Kevin Heyungs to come up with a plan. They increased the door close speed, decreased the door hold time, increased the down speed, decreased the time in zone, and adjusted the homing. Paired with an extensive Maintenance Control Program, the elevator was ready to go for the grand opening last month.
